Three minor children reportedly drowned in the river in the Pakhtachi district of the Samarkand region. According to Hayat Shamsutdinov, the spokesperson of the Prosecutor General's Office, the bodies of two minor children who drowned were also found.
On May 25 at 14:00 in Pakhtachi district, 3 minors went to bathe in the Zarafshan river and drowned due to their carelessness. The body of a child was found as a result of the search conducted by Ministry of Emergencies and Ministry of Internal Affairs officers.
The search for the remaining two children was carried out for two days.
In the summer season of 2022, 142 citizens died due to drowning in Uzbekistan. Accidents occurred in 51 cases due to bathing in prohibited, unauthorized, unsafe, dangerous water bodies, and in 85 cases due to carelessness.
About 45.3% of those drowned are minors. Of those, some 85 people's death was caused by carelessness due to the use of water, gas, and wastewater pipelines over rivers, canals, and ditches as bridges to shorten the road, and due to non-observance of safety rules on the shores of water bodies happened.
