The Minister of Natural Resources, Aziz Abdukhakimov, recently convened a meeting with the head of the UNESCO office in Tashkent, Sara Noshadi, to discuss the imperative nature of transitioning towards a green economy and implementing digitalization. The importance of prioritizing environmental education and culture and building capacity among employees and specialists was also emphasized.
The meeting highlighted the need to apply foreign experience and develop Uzbekistan's national report on the state of the environment and natural resources. Plans were also discussed to establish a Cultural Heritage Park in the Aral Sea region, create visitor centers for cultural heritage sites, and develop strategic programs to prevent climate change.
Besides, it was agreed to open a UN regional office for climate change in Tashkent and jointly host The Fourteenth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (COP14) in Samarkand in late October 2023.
