Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, stated at the European Conference on Defense and Security that the total amount of aid given to Ukraine by EU countries and organizations has reached €16bn.
The first tranche of aid was €500mn, and this has now increased to almost €6bn. Borrell added that the EU will continue to provide assistance to Ukraine. In addition, it was previously reported that the US is preparing a new package of military aid for Ukraine, which may amount to $1.2bn.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called on member states to speed up armament and ammunition production to increase defensive capacity and support Ukraine. During the Conference of National Armaments Directors, Stoltenberg emphasized the need to work with manufacturing companies to achieve NATO's required capability.
He also expressed NATO's support for Ukraine's fight against Russian aggression and offered to assist the country in recovery. However, the US, Germany, and Hungary have objected to Ukraine's possible membership in NATO at the next Vilnius summit.
