NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg encouraged member states to accelerate armament and ammunition manufacturing and restock supplies in order to strengthen the alliance's defensive capacity and sustain the aid to Ukraine, NATO's press service reports.
Stoltenberg stressed the need of attaining NATO's needed capability and engaging with manufacturing companies during the start of the Conference of National Armaments Directors (CNAD).
The CNAD conducts meetings twice a year to seek appropriate partners to strengthen military capabilities and provide NATO troops with advanced technology. Stoltenberg underlined NATO's backing of Ukraine's fight against Russian invaders and offered to help the nation recover.
While many alliance countries favor Ukraine's possible membership, the US, Germany, and Hungary have objected to giving Ukraine a route to join NATO at the next Vilnius summit.
