A draft law is being prepared by the Russian State Duma, which will enable immigrants who have acquired Russian citizenship to be drafted for the war in Ukraine, "RIA Novosti" reports.
The law, proposed by Deputy Mikhail Matveyev, would allow people from Central Asia and South Caucasus to be called up for "special operations" and used in the construction battalion at the front line. Matveyev stated that his intention is to equalize the military obligations of Russians who have no other homeland and passports with migrants who have received Russian citizenship.
He said that no more than 2-3 migrants will be included in each platoon to ensure they do not violate military discipline. Migrants would be used as a construction battalion in the forward position on the battlefield, and those with dual citizenship would no longer be drafted for military service.
