The U.S. is reportedly preparing for a large influx of migrants, CBC reports. As of May 11, at 11:59 p.m. U.S. time, the law on the deportation of migrants who illegally crossed the Mexican border (also known as Title 42) as part of the fight against the coronavirus pandemic ended its application period.
U.S. President Joe Biden previously said that the country's southern border will fall into a chaotic situation after the expiration of the rule on forced deportation.
The head of the state's prognosis raised doubts about the authorities' ability to deal with a potential escalation of the border crisis and the complexity of the situation was acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
"We fully understand the challenges we may face in the coming days and weeks, and these challenges will not be easy to overcome," said U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
