Turkmenistan has sent a humanitarian caravan weighing about 125 tonnes with medicines, food and textile products to Afghanistan, the country's Foreign Ministry reports.
"The complex humanitarian action is a continuation of Turkmenistan's consistent efforts to support Afghanistan for many years," the statement said.
Turkmenistan shares a long border of more than 800 km with Afghanistan, where about one million ethnic Turkmens live. Ashgabat supplies energy to that country on favourable terms and is building transport and energy infrastructure and social facilities there at its own expense.
Turkmenistan links a number of its major regional projects with Afghanistan towards South Asia, including a gas pipeline, electricity connections and fibre-optic cable.
