After speaking with a group of Muslims who had been assaulted and humiliated around the country, The Human Rights Committee of the Canadian Senate came to the judgment that Islamophobia is deeply established in Canada, and the nation has seen an increase in crimes perpetrated as a result of religious prejudice.
The committee members drafted an analysis that demonstrates Canada's rising Islamophobia. Although only a section of the research has been made public, it suggests a surge in far-right and anti-Muslim hate organizations in Canada, which has resulted in an escalation in assaults against Muslims driven by religious discrimination.
The survey suggests that Muslims face higher levels of hostility in Canada than other religious groups. In addition, attacks on Muslims are frequently more violent than those on other religious groups. Muslim women are especially susceptible to attacks motivated by religious prejudice, and many are reluctant to leave their homes.
According to the committee's director, Salma Ataullahyan, Islamophobia is on the rise in Canada. Young children are frequent witnesses to these assaults, which may have a severe influence on their psychology and possibly result in disputes between future generations.
The report also reveals that the number of acts of hatred recorded by the police reached 27% in 2021 compared to 2020, with 2,646 documented instances. Muslims have reported a 71% rise in police complaints. The real number of attacks on Muslims, however, is likely to be far greater because many offenses go unreported to the authorities.
It is important to note that there are around 1,775mn Muslims in Canada.
