At least 85 people are reported dead in a deadly crowd surge in Sana, Yemen on the night of April 19, the Guardian reports.
The incident took place in the centre of Sana, where local businesses where giving out free food and money as a charity event for upcoming Ramadan holiday. Rebels tried to take control over the crowd by allegedly using gunfire, which caused mass panic.
Officials in the area reportedly announced compensation of $2,000 for families who lost a relative and about $400 for those injured.
UN estimates that there are over 17mn people in the country who are considered "very vulnerable" and there are efforts to gather funds to aid humanitarian crisis in the region.
