The United States will provide Ukraine with a new military aid package worth $2.6bn, Reuters reports, citing American officials. The grant will be officially announced on Monday, April 3.
$2.1bn is allocated under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), which allows the purchase of weapons and equipment from US defense firms rather than from existing stockpiles. The remaining $500mn worth of ammunition will be sent to Kyiv from the current reserves of the USA.
Among other things, Ukraine will receive anti-tank projectiles, precision-guided aviation munitions, pontoon equipment, repair, and recovery vehicles for maintenance of heavy equipment, and projectiles for NASAMS Norwegian air defense systems.
Since January 2021, Washington has invested more than $32.8bn (of which $32.2bn was allocated after the start of the war) to support the "security" of Ukraine.
