At the opening ceremony of the new office of the delegation of the Council of Europe in Tashkent, the president of the European council, Charles Michel, noted that effective and constructive negotiations were held with the president of Uzbekistan. He highly appreciated the role of the head of state in implementing political and economic reforms and ensuring that they do not go back.
According to the Belgian politician, the political will of the leader of Uzbekistan to continue the changes deserves recognition noting that the country is making great progress in developing the economy, respecting human rights, and strengthening democracy.
"We discussed human rights issues, and the President of Uzbekistan confirmed his readiness to continue efforts to strengthen the rule of law," the President of the European council said.
He also emphasized the role of the President of Uzbekistan in strengthening regional cooperation, his initiatives, and his ideas for strengthening peace and stability in the region.
Specific agreements were reached to expand mutual cooperation, and sign an agreement on enhanced partnership and cooperation as soon as possible. According to him, an important conference on relations between the European Union and Central Asia will be held in Uzbekistan in November. This will be an important forum for discussing the current state of interregional cooperation and developing specific proposals on all issues of common interest.
The President of the Council of Europe stated that during the negotiations, the issues of peaceful settlement of the situation in Afghanistan and the negative impact of the war in Ukraine were also discussed. At the end of his speech, Charles Michel emphasized that "the delegation of the Council of Europe in Tashkent should play an important role in strengthening bilateral cooperation and implementing the agreements reached between me and the President of Uzbekistan."
