Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have taken a step toward deepening their energy cooperation with the signing of a roadmap for the construction of small hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) in Kyrgyzstan.

The agreement was reached during the first official visit of Adylbek Kasymaliev, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Head of the Administration of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, to Kazakhstan.
The document, signed by the energy ministries of both countries, outlines key areas of collaboration in the development of Kyrgyzstan’s hydropower potential. This initiative aligns with broader regional efforts to enhance energy security and infrastructure in Central Asia.
"Kazakhstan has consistently advocated for strengthening regional cooperation in the field of energy. We see this as a guarantee of stability and prosperity for all of Central Asia. The signing of the roadmap with Kyrgyzstan is another confirmation of our commitment to this course. We are ready to share our experience and resources to build an energy-independent future together," Kazakhstan's Minister of Energy, Almasadam Satkaliyev, emphasized the importance of regional cooperation in the energy sector.

Trade between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan reached $1.34bn in 2024, with both countries maintaining strong economic ties.
Earlier, Kasymaliev highlighted Kazakhstan’s role as a key trading partner and emphasized ongoing collaboration within regional organizations like the EAEU, CSTO, and SCO.
Efforts are underway to boost bilateral trade to $3bn by 2030. Investment relations are also growing, with Kazakhstani companies investing approximately $49mn in Kyrgyzstan in the first nine months of 2024.
