The trade turnover between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan reached $1.34bn in 2024, reflecting a steady upward trend in economic cooperation. This was highlighted during an expanded-format meeting in Astana between Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Adylbek Kasymaliev and Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov.

Kasymaliev emphasized that Kazakhstan remains one of Kyrgyzstan’s key trading partners, with both countries actively cooperating within regional organizations such as the Eurasian Economic Union, the Collective Security Treaty Organization, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. He noted that the governments of both nations are working toward increasing bilateral trade to $3bn by 2030.
Investment ties have also been strengthening, with Kazakhstani companies investing nearly $49mn in Kyrgyzstan’s economy in the first nine months of 2024. To facilitate further economic growth, both sides discussed key initiatives, including the construction of an industrial trade and logistics complex at the border, a ferroalloy plant in Tash-Kumyr, and a trade and logistics warehouse in Kazakhstan’s Almaty region to boost agricultural trade.

The meeting also covered cooperation in energy, particularly the approval of an agreement on duty-free oil supplies to Kyrgyzstan, aimed at enhancing energy stability and reducing fuel costs. Additionally, cultural, educational, and tourism partnerships were discussed as areas for further collaboration.
Bektenov reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s commitment to expanding trade and economic ties. He emphasized that the close relationship between the leaders of both nations would further strengthen multifaceted cooperation.
The meeting was attended by high-ranking officials from both countries, representing key sectors such as transport, energy, customs, investment, and agriculture.
