The Ambassador of Uzbekistan, Ravshan Usmanov, has held a meeting with the Minister of Transport of Malaysia, Anthony Loke Siew Fook, to discuss extensive work carried out in Uzbekistan to develop transport and transport communications in recent years.
The objective has been to ensure a high level of transportation safety, improve the management system in the transport sector, implement large-scale measures aimed at training qualified specialists for the industry, and improve the transport and logistics system to increase the country's export potential.
Loke Siew Fook praised the reforms implemented by Uzbekistan's government in the field of transport and the major projects undertaken so far. These include the "Uzbekistan - Afghanistan - Pakistan" highway and the creation of an international transport corridor for access to the ports of the Indian Ocean through these two countries.
Malasiya's Minister of Transport expressed his willingness to share his experience with the relevant departments of Uzbekistan about the best practices of Malaysia in managing public transport.
During the meeting, the potential for cooperation in the transport field between Uzbekistan and Malaysia was also discussed, with an exchange of views on developing cooperation in air and rail traffic.
Loke Siew Fook welcomed the planned flights that Malaysian airline Batik Air intends to operate three times a week on the "Kuala Lumpur - Tashkent - Kuala Lumpur" route starting in November this year. He believes these new flights will help expand further cooperation in trade, economy, investment, and tourism between the two countries.
The Minister of Transport also noted the activities carried out by the working group to study the corridors connecting the two countries by rail. He expressed the need to accelerate cooperation in this direction. In March of this year, a working group was formed to study the railway corridors of the two countries, and measures have been identified to be implemented for the study and use of the route Tashkent - Shymkent (Kazakhstan) - Urumqi - Xi'an - Chongqing - Kunming (China) - Laos - Thailand - Perlis - Klang (Malaysia).
Loke Siew Fook emphasized that this route, which connects the two countries by rail, is the only transport corridor and could become a logistics hub for Uzbek products entering the Southeast Asian market in Malaysia.
Following the meeting, agreements were reached to accelerate negotiations between Batik Air and Uzbekistan Airports and the start of flights of the Malaysian airline to Uzbekistan in November of this year.
A trip of specialists from Uzbek Railways to Kuala Lumpur will be organized to discuss issues of cooperation with the leadership of the Malaysian railway operator.
Experts from the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan will also visit Malaysia to learn about the best practices in public transport management.
