Uzbekistan’s electrical engineering sector is gearing up for a transformative year in 2025, with ambitious plans to implement 290 new projects valued at $4 bn. The sector also aims to attract $600 mn in investments to drive growth and innovation. Industry leaders outlined these ambitious goals during a January 11 presentation to President Mirziyoyev.
The sector has already achieved notable milestones in 2024. It contributed 3.5% to the country’s industrial output and accounted for 10% of total exports. Over the past year, the industry produced goods worth UZS31 trillion and exported $1.3 bn worth of products. Investment activity was robust, with $516 mn utilized and 85 new enterprises launched, creating jobs for more than 27,000 people.
Entrepreneurs will soon be allowed to construct ready-made facilities within technopark territories and sell them to businesses in the electrical engineering and related industries. Additionally, it is proposed that entrepreneurs who establish high-tech production facilities be exempted from profit and property taxes for three years.
These measures are expected to pave the way for new projects, including a $68 mn initiative in the Ahangaron copper cluster and $30 mn in developments across Kashkadarya, Fergana, and Urgench.
To support these expansions, UZS181 bn will be invested in infrastructure. Additionally, the country is focusing on increasing copper processing capacity to 75% and leveraging local resources to finance $28 bn worth of domestic projects.
To attract more businesses and foster innovation, policymakers are proposing a three-year tax exemption for companies engaged in high-tech production. The government is also establishing a guaranteed market worth UZS15 trillion for products, prioritizing renewable energy solutions for social infrastructure. These measures are designed to create a supportive environment for industry players while advancing Uzbekistan’s green economy goals.
The long-term vision for the sector includes increasing annual exports to $3 bn and production volumes to UZS50 trillion. This growth is expected to position Uzbekistan as a key player in the global electrical engineering market while contributing to the nation’s sustainable development.
In addition to industrial expansion, Uzbekistan is emphasizing the importance of innovation and talent development. Plans are in place to develop market-ready products and train skilled professionals, ensuring the sector has the expertise needed to meet future challenges.
