A doctoral student at Samarkand State University (SamSU), Uzbekistan, Feruz Shodmonov, has identified a new species of spider, now formally recognized in the scientific community.
The spider, named Gorbiscape zarafshanicus, was discovered at the university’s internship and health camp. The species has been documented in a research paper published in the Q2-ranked journal Acta Arachnologica, which is included in the Scopus database.
The study was a collaborative effort between Shodmonov and Alexander Fomichev, a scientist from Russia. Their findings contribute to the growing body of knowledge on arachnids in Central Asia.
This discovery highlights the biodiversity of the Zarafshan region and shows the importance of ongoing research efforts at SamSU.
