President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan declared the country's ambitious target to achieve carbon neutrality by the year 2060. The statement was made during Tokayev's address at the summit of leaders participating in the UN Special Program for the Economy of Central Asia (SPECA), Tengrinews reports.
During the summit, President Tokayev urged fellow heads of state to collaborate and intensify collective efforts in transitioning to alternative energy sources. He also put forth a proposal for the creation of a Central Asian project office on climate issues in Almaty, seeking support from the participating nations.
Highlighting the vast potential in cooperation related to digital technologies and artificial intelligence, President Tokayev emphasized the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on production, the labor market, and the service sector.
"In our country, more than 90% of public services are provided electronically, and the share of cashless transactions has exceeded 80%. The volume of exports from the IT sector witnessed a fivefold increase last year, and we aim to elevate this figure to one billion dollars by 2026," stated President Tokayev.
The commitment to carbon neutrality aligns with global efforts to address climate change, signaling Kazakhstan's dedication to sustainable development and environmental responsibility. The President's call for regional collaboration reflects the growing recognition of the interconnectedness of climate issues and the importance of collective action to ensure a sustainable and resilient future.
