Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have taken strides toward advancing industrial cooperation, following a high-level meeting between Kyrgyzstan's Minister of Economy and Commerce, Daniyar Amangeldiev, and Tajikistan's Minister of Industry and New Technologies, Sherali Kabirov. The discussions centered on expanding collaborative efforts in sectors such as metallurgy, light industry, machine engineering, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and construction materials.
During the talks, both ministers identified potential areas where joint efforts could benefit the economies of both countries. To drive progress, they agreed to form a joint working group tasked with exploring these promising areas of cooperation. This working group will delve into sector-specific opportunities, assessing ways to enhance productivity and industrial output in each nation.
Additionally, the two countries committed to boosting interaction between their business communities. Plans include increasing the exchange of visits by official delegations and business representatives, and organizing regular meetings to facilitate direct dialogue on industrial partnerships. This initiative aims to strengthen economic ties and encourage cross-border investments, fostering a supportive environment for industrial growth.
The timing of the collaboration holds promise, as both Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have reported growth in their industrial sectors. The State Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan noted that the country’s industrial production reached approximately KGS 394bn ($4.6bn) from January to September 2024, marking a 4.2% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
Meanwhile, Tajikistan recorded a 15% increase in its industrial output, totaling TJS 36.3bn ($3.4bn) for the same period, according to the country’s Statistical Agency.
