U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with foreign ministers and representatives from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan under the C5+1 platform during the 79th annual session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). This meeting reaffirmed the ongoing commitment to deepening cooperation between the U.S. and Central Asia, building on the foundation laid during the inaugural C5+1 Presidential Summit in September 2023.
Secretary Blinken highlighted the progress made since the landmark Summit, particularly the successful launch of the C5+1 Critical Minerals Dialogue and the B5+1 Forum, which supports U.S.-Central Asian business partnerships. He also noted the first-ever C5+1 Special Session on Disability Rights held alongside the UN Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), marking significant steps toward promoting inclusivity and cooperation in the region.
The discussions focused on enhancing regional security cooperation, emphasizing a shared vision for peace and stability in Central Asia. Secretary Blinken stressed the importance of upholding the United Nations Charter, particularly regarding human rights and the sovereignty of nations. He also reaffirmed the U.S.'s commitment to strengthening the C5+1 partnership, grounded in respect for independence and territorial integrity.
As the C5+1 platform approaches its tenth anniversary in 2025, Secretary Blinken underscored the U.S.'s dedication to working alongside Central Asian nations to find regional solutions to global challenges, promoting peace, security, and economic growth in the region.
