On October 26, an armed attack allegedly targeting Komil Allamjonov, former head of the Department of Information Policy in the Presidential Administration, was reported. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, one of the individuals involved in the incident has been identified and arrested.
The reported assassination attempt occurred in Tashkent’s Qibray district, where two unidentified individuals fired multiple rounds at a Range Rover driven by citizen S.S., with Allamjonov reportedly inside the vehicle. The suspects fled the scene, and no injuries were reported.
Following the incident, the Prosecutor General’s Office initiated a criminal case under Articles 25 and 97 (attempted murder) and Article 248 (illegal handling of firearms, ammunition, explosive materials, or devices) of the Criminal Code. A joint investigative and operational team was assembled, including personnel from the Prosecutor General’s Office, Tashkent regional and city prosecutors, military and transport prosecutors, as well as officials from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, regional and city police departments, and the Customs Committee.
One other suspect remains at large with the investigation still underway.
Komil Allamjonov stepped down from his role as head of the Presidential Administration’s Department of Information Policy on September 30, 2024, and announced his decision to pursue a career in the private sector.
