'We have ensured that three affected girls from Khorezm orphanage are safe,' Saida Mirziyoyeva

    2 April, 22:55 1144

As Daryo has previously reported, three underage pupils of a family orphanage were allegedly forced into intimacy with the heads of the provincial department of justice and district department for emergencies in the Khorezm region.

Saida Mirziyoyeva, Head of the Branch of the Presidential Administration, on March 2, informed that measures had been taken to ensure the safety of the underage girls was guaranteed as she has spoken out about the issue and in support of efforts to prevent such crimes.

'Their safety and moral and physical recovery is now a priority. But, at the same time, we must work to establish a system to respond to such cases and, above all, to prevent them. The time has come to strengthen laws and set norms of zero tolerance for violence.

    At all levels.

The only thing that gives me hope in this situation is the openness and voice of civil society, without which we might be blind to what's happening around us.

There has always been violence, but now, thanks to openness, we talk about it loudly and have tangible resources to fight it.

Uzbekistan's stated commitment to freedom of speech and media bears fruit, even if it is excruciating for everyone. The system does not line up in one day; it is a long way and a struggle of interests. And today, the voice of the problem is heard more loudly than ever.

I thank all the media and activists who are not indifferent and expressed their civic position on this case. Together we are strong in creating a working justice system!' the message reads.

Saida Mirziyoyeva noted that tragedy in the Khorezm region 'depicts serious problems in the legislation' causing 'despicable persons to exploit this loophole.'

The Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration, Komil Allamjonov, said 'it is time to amend the legislation regarding chemical castration against pedophiles' as part of the steps to address the issue.

The Children's Ombudsperson also believes mentioned crimes against underage children should be severely punished. The Prosecutor General's Office filed a cassation protest on the child rape case in Khorezm.
