The Uzbek government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, has enacted a decree aimed at curbing the free distribution and sale of goods at excessively low prices during promotional events and other mass gatherings. This directive, issued on June 28, prohibits such practices to manage public order and prevent incidents similar to recent events.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Guard have been tasked with enhancing supervision to ensure compliance with the new regulations. This initiative is intended to maintain control over public gatherings and prevent disruptions to traffic and public order.
The decision comes in response to an incident that occurred on June 1 at Ashgabat Park, where the free distribution of 20,000 soft toys resulted in a significant gathering of people and extensive traffic congestion, described as reaching a 10-point scale. Subsequently, organizers of the event were detained and sentenced to 15 days of administrative detention.
This legislative measure underscores the government's commitment to regulating public events responsibly and ensuring the orderly conduct of promotional activities across the country.
