Pavel Durov, founder of Telegram messenger, highlighted Uzbekistan's significant embrace of the platform during his recent visit to the country. He emphasized that over 70% of Uzbekistan's 37 mn population utilizes Telegram, with the entire economy leveraging the platform through business channels and bots.
During his stay, Durov praised Tashkent's modern infrastructure and admired the picturesque landscapes of Uzbekistan's eastern mountainous regions. He also expressed admiration for the local youth, noting their talent and compassion.
Deputy Head of the Presidential Security Service, Otabek Umarov, described hosting Durov as an honour. He lauded both Durov and his brother Nikolai as not just accomplished professionals but also individuals with a profound global perspective and kindness.
Umarov expressed optimism that Durov's experiences in Uzbekistan, including visits to cultural landmarks like Tashkent, Samarkand, and Bukhara, alongside interactions with local Telegram users, would inspire new technological advancements for the platform.
