In a virtual meeting held on January 23, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, Muzaffar Madrakhimov, engaged in discussions with Deputy State Secretary for the Development of Eastern Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, Adam Stifter, MFA reported. The meeting served as a platform to address a range of issues on the Uzbekistan-Hungary diplomatic agenda, fostering collaboration and partnership between the two nations.
The discussions encompassed various aspects of bilateral cooperation, including upcoming political engagements, the enhancement of inter-parliamentary dialogue, collaboration within international organizations, and other multilateral structures.
The officials also underscored the significance of trade and investment cooperation, expressing mutual interest in organizing substantial business events and supporting joint projects in areas such as pharmaceuticals, medicine, agriculture, and the automotive industry.
Particular emphasis was given to the development of interregional cooperation, focusing on potential collaborations between Jizzakh and Gyor-Moson-Sopron, as well as Samarkand and Hajdu-Bihar. This strategic approach aims to deepen economic ties and foster growth in specific regions of both countries.
Cultural and humanitarian ties were not overlooked, with the agenda of the meeting including discussions on expanding these ties, particularly in the realms of science and education. This signifies a commitment from both Uzbekistan and Hungary to foster people-to-people connections and promote mutual understanding.
The relations between Uzbekistan and Hungary have a solid foundation, with diplomatic ties established in 1992. Over the years, bilateral relations have flourished, culminating in the opening of the Embassy of Hungary in Tashkent in 2016. Reflecting the growing interest from both nations, Uzbekistan reciprocated in 2023 by opening its own embassy in Budapest. This move is seen as a positive sign, highlighting the increasing interest of businesspersons, students, researchers, and artists from both countries to collaborate in their respective fields.
