President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan held a meeting with Xi Guohua, the Presdient of China’s CITIC Corporation, during his state visit to China. The primary focus of the meeting was on expanding the portfolio of joint projects, particularly in the areas of road transport, the engineering infrastructure of Uzbekistan, and the modernization of irrigation systems.
CITIC Corporation, formerly known as China International Trust Investment Corporation, is a state-owned investment company of the People’s Republic of China. It is a leading financial services provider and developer of large-scale industrial and infrastructure projects, with assets amounting to about $1.5 trillion.
High-Level Negotiations and Bilateral Meetings
The President of Uzbekistan arrived in China on January 23 to hold high-level negotiations and a series of bilateral meetings. The state visit began with a meeting with the country’s prime minister, where the issues of further expansion of multifaceted practical cooperation, primarily in the trade and economic sphere, were considered.
Meeting with Zhao Leji
Following the initial meeting, President Mirziyoyev met with Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China. During the meeting, it was noted that Uzbekistan is interested in establishing training centers for specialists in technical areas, learning China’s experience in providing social protection and insurance, and targeted assistance to the population.
