A meeting took place between Tajikistan and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on November 11, 2023, and the President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), H.E. Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser, welcomed the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon.
During their meeting, the two leaders discussed various ways to enhance their economic cooperation and strengthen their diplomatic ties. President Rahmon expressed his gratitude for the assistance provided by the Islamic Development Bank in supporting socio-economic development projects and helping to address challenges in Tajikistan.
In return, Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser expressed his appreciation for Tajikistan's support and its adoption of an improved project management framework. As a demonstration of their commitment to Tajikistan, IsDB, and Tajikistan will be collaborating on the Rogun Dam project, which aims to further improve the country's infrastructure. It's worth noting that the partnership between IsDB and Tajikistan has resulted in total approvals of $726.4mn, covering various sectors such as education, energy, and transportation.
Currently, the final stages of approval for the Country Engagement Framework (CEF) are pending, with an allocation of $235mn. IsDB has played a crucial role in supporting the development of the Islamic financial services industry in Tajikistan.
Tajikistan has been a member of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) since November 27, 1996, and while collaborating with the IsDB, they have made agreements to improve water resources in Tajikistan’s regions and also funded schools in various regions to promote better education facilities. IsDB education has been projected in Tajikistan’s National Development Strategy and National Strategy for Education Development.
