Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov attended a Turkmen-Turkish business forum in Ankara as part of his official visit to Turkey.
The Turkmenistan's news agency reports that the head of state proposed to set up a joint investment fund and consider opening branches of a number of leading Turkish banks in Turkmenistan.
"Turkmenistan attaches importance to building up investment partnerships with foreign countries, and here the main goal is to attract foreign capital to large energy and infrastructure projects being implemented in our country."
The agency also quoted Berdimuhamedov as saying that energy plays a significant role in bilateral relations. It is about sending energy resources:natural gas and electricity to Turkey. "Turkmenistan is guided by the principle of equal consideration of the interests of producers, transitors and consumers, so it is open to co-operation with Turkish partners in this area."
Turkey is one of Turkmenistan's largest trading partners. Last year, total trade turnover totalled $2.06bn, up 21.8% from a year earlier. About 600 Turkish companies operating in trade, construction, energy, transport, communications and textiles are registered on the local market.
Experts told Daryo that Ashgabat and Ankara are interested in implementing a project to build a 300-km Trans-Caspian gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan. It is expected that this infrastructure could become an additional source of supply for the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC), which runs through the Caucasus region and Turkey to Europe.
"This project could make a significant contribution to the creation of a transnational gas hub in Thrace, Turkey."
