The European Union (EU) and the International Trade Centre (ITC) have agreed to jointly implement the project "Turkmenistan-EU: Partnership on trade resilience and integration".
This joint project is aimed at assisting Turkmenistan in the process of accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO), the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reports. The document was signed in Brussels, Belgium, within the framework of the Global Gateway Forum, which brought together representatives of EU governments and partner countries.
At the ceremony, Turkmenistan's Minister of Finance and Economy, Serdar Jorayev, emphasized the importance of measures taken by Turkmenistan to improve the country's regulatory framework in accordance with WTO norms and standards.
During a meeting with Odile Renaud-Basso, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Minister informed about preparation of the Memorandum on the foreign trade regime.
Experts told Daryo that Turkmenistan was the last former Soviet republic to start negotiations on joining the WTO. Officially, Ashgabat was granted WTO observer status in July 2020 and will become an "acceding country" in February 2022.
The Central Asian country plans to join the WTO by 2030.
