Turkmenistan is actively negotiating with international investors on the second and third phases of development of Galkynysh, the world's largest onshore gas field.
Murad Archayev, deputy head of state-owned Turkmengaz, told an energy conference in Ashgabat on 25-27 October, adding that a "breakthrough" in this direction is expected in 2024.
The reserves of the Galkynysh field with nearby pockets, where the first stage of commercial development has been implemented, are estimated at 27.4tn cubic metres. The forecast was made with the participation of the British GaffneyCline.
Industry experts told Daryo that in the long term, the supergiant could produce about 200bn cubic metres of gas a year after six stages of industrial development.
Galkynysh is a major source of gas for China and a potential feedstock for a pipeline to South Asia under construction and a project under discussion to Europe via the Caspian Sea.
