Film Director Muzaffar Erkinov expressed his gratitude to Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the organizers of the Tashkent International Film Festival through his Facebook page. He also documented the impressions of Serbian filmmaker Emir Kusturitsa during his first visit to Uzbekistan within the framework of the Tashkent International Film Festival.
According to Erkinov, during several conversations with Emir Kusturitsa and his producer Mirko Radinovic, the topic of their visit to Uzbekistan and its significance arose multiple times. Kusturitsa commented on Tashkent as "difficult to conquer, even from Paris and Dubai."
He reiterated this sentiment on several occasions, emphasizing the unique nature of Tashkent. Kusturitsa's reflections also touched upon the idea that it is impossible to buy someone's truth or silence through monetary means.
Erkinov, who was influenced by Kusturitsa's words, mentioned the close attention and respect that they received from both Uzbekistan and Kusturitsa, despite the differences in their ages. The director emphasized the impact of Kusturitsa's belief in not silencing people with material rewards, and the realization of the importance of such values.
Erkinov noted that he initially underestimated the significance of Kusturitsa and Radinovic's visit and their comments. However, he later realized the significance of their opinions after Kusturitsa expressed his views about Tashkent.
The director emphasized the importance of opening our eyes, as citizens, to what is happening around us, understanding the world, and why we are different from other countries, similar to major global cities. Erkinov pondered why people fail to understand these truths and why they don't accept changes. He questioned why we label those who point out shortcomings as unpatriotic and shame them when needed.
Erkinov concluded by expressing his gratitude to the Tashkent International Film Festival, Emir Kusturica, and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for facilitating such a platform and for their meaningful contributions.
Emir Kusturitsa is a renowned filmmaker known for his works such as "Underground," "Arizona Dream," "Black Cat, White Cat," and "Time of the Gypsies," which have earned him accolades at major European film festivals, including two Palme d'Or awards at the Cannes Film Festival.
