Shavkat Mirziyoyev is holding a meeting to discuss the utilization of the potential of tourist sites, as announced by the press secretary of the head of state, Sherzod Asadov.
From January to August, Uzbekistan was visited by 4.3mn foreigners, generating a revenue of $1.4bn. The number of domestic tourists doubled in a year, reaching 15 million people, thanks in part to additional holidays. Six new airlines have started operating since the beginning of the year, launching 20 international flights.
In Samarkand airport alone, the number of weekly international flights nearly doubled from 46 to 85. The President has allocated additional opportunities to attract tourists, primarily from Russia and China. He called for promoting routes within Uzbekistan in Chinese cities and launching flights to Samarkand, Bukhara, Termez, Urgench, and the Fergana Valley.
There has also been an increase in the number of guests from distant foreign countries by 3-4 times, particularly from the United States, Italy, India, and Japan. However, efforts to attract tourists from Malaysia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, Qatar, and European countries have been relatively weak. The head of state instructed diplomats in these countries and officials in the tourism sector to intensify their efforts. Mirziyoyev specifically mentioned the upcoming General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization, which will take place in Samarkand next week.
Over 1,000 guests from 128 countries have registered to participate in the event, including 79 ministers and 24 deputy ministers involved in the tourism industry. The President tasked the governors of all regions to conclude agreements on tourism projects. To enhance tourism attractiveness, cultural events are to be organized in the regions. Additionally, the Film Agency will create a program to promote Uzbekistan's cultural heritage.
