President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of the Republic of Uzbekistan highlighted the strides made by Central Asia in achieving regional stability, unity, and progress during his address at the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
"In recent years, Central Asia has embarked on a path of good neighborliness, stability, joint partnership and progress,"
the President began, shedding light on the transformative phase the region has been going through.
President Mirziyoyev further elaborated on Uzbekistan's accomplishments, noting,
"Thanks to our joint efforts, Uzbekistan has managed to address problems of state borders, transport corridors, and water use with all its neighbors."
Statistics mentioned by President Mirziyoyev underline the growing economic bonds among countries of the region.
"Mutual trade between the countries of the region has grown by more than two and a half times and the number of joint ventures has increased five-fold."
These impressive figures signify a shift in Central Asia's positioning on the global stage. Mirziyoyev remarked,
"Our region has become a promising center for economic development, a transport and communications bridge connecting East and West, North and South. This has led to a growing interest in our country."
In his speech, the President emphasized the importance of Central Asia's increasing openness to the world.
"Central Asia's openness to the world is becoming the main condition for ensuring the region's security and stable development,"
he said.
Elaborating on the cultural and historic significance, President Mirziyoyev added,
"It is safe to say that our people unite around a growing sense of regional identity, and this sense is growing even stronger. It is not only our history that is common, but also our future and our vital interests that are shared."
Addressing the future, President Mirziyoyev made clear the direction of Uzbekistan's foreign policy.
"Expanding our regional cooperation is and will be our only choice,"
he stated. He then called for international support, expressing his optimism:
"I am convinced that with the support of the international community, Central Asia will continue on the path of unity."
Concluding his impactful address, President Mirziyoyev affirmed his dedication to the betterment of the region:
"In this regard, transforming Central Asia into a peaceful and prosperous region will henceforth remain a priority goal of Uzbekistan's foreign policy!"
