At present, Turkmen-Uzbek interaction is constructive and sustainable and is developing in a wide range of areas. President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov wrote this in his message to his Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the occasion of Uzbekistan's Independence Day.
"Today, the Republic of Uzbekistan is confidently walking the path of progress and prosperity in political, socio-economic and other spheres. We are happy about the achievements of our close neighbour."
The Turkmen leader also expressed "firm conviction in further deepening of friendly relations for the benefit of our peoples."
Last year, trade turnover between the countries increased by 67% to $902mn, five times more than in 2017.
Uzbekistan not only buys Turkmen energy, but is also an important transit country. Two main gas pipelines pass through its territory, which Turkmenistan exports natural gas to China and CIS countries.
