Gismet Fizuli oglu Gezalov has been appointed Azerbaijan's ambassador to Turkmenistan. The relevant decree was signed by the President of Azerbaijan.
Experts told Daryo that co-operation between the two Caspian littoral states has intensified in recent years in areas such as trade, transit, logistics and energy.
Azerbaijan has been importing Turkmen gas since 2022 thanks to a trilateral swap agreement with Iran. The Trans-Caspian gas pipeline project from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan, Turkey and Europe is gaining relevance, and negotiations are planned.
Baku and Ashgabat also play a key role in the development of international transport and transit corridors such as Lapis Lazuli (Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey) and the Caspian Sea-Black Sea.
