Turkmenistan proposes to create a self-sufficient model of co-operation to meet the growing energy needs in the region, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reports.
The article is devoted to a summit held in Ashgabat in early August with the participation of Turkmen, Tajik and Uzbek Presidents Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Emomali Rakhmon and Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The information quotes Berdimuhamedov's words that "a systematic, substantive approach is needed to achieve strategic goals". According to him, there are already certain developments in this area of cooperation, in particular, in the electricity sector. The President of Turkmenistan proposed long-term trilateral cooperation in the gas sector.

Turkmenistan, which supplies its gas to China and a number of CIS countries, considers supplies to Uzbekistan and Tajikistan a priority.
Rashid Meredov, Turkmenistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, said at a press conference in Ashgabat. "Undoubtedly, Turkmen gas supplies to its closest neighbours, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, will be a priority".
Turkmenistan produced 78bn cubic metres of gas in 2022. Commercial development of Galkynysh, the world's largest onshore gas field, could significantly increase that figure, experts said.
In addition to natural gas, Turkmenistan sells electricity, of which Afghanistan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan are importers.
