"The electricity transmission project from Turkmenistan to Herat Nur-ul-Jihad substation is a significant vital project as it will address electricity issues in the northwest zone," the company said in a press release.
Afghanistan imports the electricity it needs from Central Asian countries and Iran, while most of its electricity in recent years has been imported from Uzbekistan. Afghanistan has signed an agreement with that country for 2023 to supply 420 MW of electricity for $100mn. Turkmenistan supplies about 110 MW.
