Under the decision of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the Neighborhood Support Fund and Culture Support Fund were established under the Council of Ministers of Karakalpakstan on July 13. These initiatives aim to enhance the development and well-being of neighbourhoods, promote community participation, and support cultural activities in the region.
The Neighborhood Support Fund is set to allocate around $20 mn, with each of the 452 neighbourhood assemblies in Karakalpakstan receiving around $43,000 in 2023. The funds will be utilised in various key areas, including the repair and restoration of internal roads, electricity and natural gas networks, drinking water and sewage systems within the neighbourhoods. Additionally, neighbourhood infrastructure development, beautification, and greening projects will be implemented, enhancing the overall aesthetics and quality of living in these areas.
Moreover, the fund aims to encourage and support the efforts of "neighbourhood street leaders and housewives" who play vital roles within their communities. Financial assistance will be provided to low-income families in need of social protection and assistance in repairing their residences, ensuring their living conditions are improved.
The Neighborhood Support Fund will also contribute to the construction, major and minor repairs of buildings housing citizens' assemblies, sports fields, places of luminaries, youth centres, children's playgrounds, libraries, and cultural centres. These facilities will be equipped with necessary inventory, furniture, computer equipment, and other resources to enhance their functionality and provide citizens with better access to educational, cultural, and recreational activities.
Additionally, the fund will focus on the implementation of the nationwide project "Green Space" by establishing "neighbourhood parks" in Karakalpakstan. This initiative aims to create green areas within neighbourhoods, providing residents with accessible spaces for relaxation and leisure activities.
Also, the Culture Support Fund has also been established under the Council of Ministers of Karakalpakstan. A total of $8 mn has been allocated for the year 2023 to support cultural endeavours in the region. This fund will contribute to the promotion and preservation of cultural heritage, organising cultural events, supporting local artists, and facilitating the development of cultural infrastructure.
