Uzbekistan exported 4,400 tons of apples valued at $1.8mn to seven countries between January and May 2023. This represents a decrease of 702 tons compared to the same period in 2022, National Statistics Agency reports.
The top destinations for Uzbekistan's apple exports during the five-month period in 2023 were as follows:
- Kazakhstan: 2,500 tons
- Russia: 764 tons
- Turkmenistan: 649 tons
- Kyrgyzstan: 444 tons
- Tajikistan: 125 tons
In late April, the capital city of Uzbekistan saw the arrival of the popularly known "May apples" in supermarkets. Compared to the previous year, the early apple season began a few days earlier, but the average price was seven times cheaper in April 2022.
