Uzbekistan has made progress in the rating of freedom of speech, as reported by the Article 19 organization, which advocates for international freedom of speech and information from Great Britain.
The Global Expression Report for 2022 ranks Uzbekistan at 133 out of 161 countries, three places higher than last year.
The ranking includes countries from all regions, with Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, and Finland securing the top positions. North Korea sits at the bottom of the list.
The ranking is based on 25 indicators: media censorship, religious freedom, and cultural environment. Among the Central Asian countries, Kyrgyzstan ranks highest at 104th, followed by Kazakhstan at 121st, Tajikistan at 149th, and Turkmenistan at 159th.
