The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Uzbekistan has shared the findings of a study on demographic trends and birth factors in the country until 2050 with "Daryo."
The study, conducted by a team of national and international experts from Charles University in the Czech Republic, was financially supported by the UNFPA and focused on Karakalpakstan, regions, and the city of Tashkent.
The forecast reveals that Uzbekistan's population is expected to experience rapid growth in the next three decades. It is projected that the population will reach 40mn by 2028 and is anticipated to further increase to 50mn by 2050. Currently, the population of Uzbekistan counts at almost 35mn.
The primary driver of this population growth is expected to be a natural increase through births. Alongside population growth, significant changes are occurring across all age groups, leading to an expected increase in the rate of population aging.
The UNFPA highlights that utilizing the forecast results enables government authorities to make informed decisions at both national and regional levels. Uzbekistan currently holds the highest birth rate among CIS countries, with an annual natural population growth of over 760,000 people.
