The State Security Service of Uzbekistan reported jointly with other law enforcement agencies the prevention of the circulation of approximately 14 kg of drugs, according to Uzbekistan National News Agency (UzA).
Drug couriers from Kyrgyzstan attempted to smuggle 9 kg 57 g of hashish across the border. A 1971-born woman residing in the Altaryk district, who had a previous conviction, was apprehended after picking up the shipment and heading towards Fergana.
A 1986-born resident of the Denau district in Surkhandarya region was driving towards the Kukdala district in a Cobalt car. He was stopped at the "Umakay" checkpoint, where a search of his vehicle revealed 2 kg of opium and 550 g of hashish. Another resident of the Denau district was later arrested in Tashkent while receiving narcotics brought from Tajikistan.
A 1974-born resident of the Uch Kurgan district was found in possession of 1.39 kg of hashish. It was determined that he planned to resell the purchased goods, acquired for $12,000.
In Kokand, a 1986-born resident was arrested for selling 974 g of hashish for $10,000. During questioning, he revealed that he had obtained the drugs from another resident of the city, born in 1989. The latter was also put behind bars, and he confessed that the narcotics were brought from Kyrgyzstan.
Criminal cases have been initiated in all incidents under Articles 246 (Smuggling) and 273 (Illegal manufacture, acquisition, and storage of drugs) of the Criminal Code.
