The delegation from the Republic of Uzbekistan's Oliy Majlis participated in an international roundtable titled "Parliaments and Women's Rights: Advancing the Implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights," the Senate's press service reports.
This event was organized by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in collaboration with the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
During the roundtable, discussions centered around the role of parliaments in ensuring women's equal rights in political participation, decent work, and education as outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.
Participants shared best practices related to parliamentary activities and the national-level initiatives aimed at promoting these rights. Additionally, a plan of action was developed to be included in the "Human Rights 75" high-level event scheduled for December 11-12, 2023.
At the conclusion of the event, the second edition of the guidelines for parliament members on the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, which was jointly developed by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, was presented.
Earlier, it was also reported that under the leadership of Almaty, Central Asian countries are planning to launch a program to end gender-based violence in all five states and Afghanistan. This initiative came as a result of the United Nations Spotlight Initiative Regional Program for Central Asia and Afghanistan meeting in Almaty on June 27.
