Patentes Talgo, a Spanish company, is set to manufacture an additional four sets of Afrosiab high-speed electric trains for Uzbekistan, as reported by Dunyo news agency on June 28.
In a meeting between Ambassador Jahongir Ganiev of Uzbekistan and Carlos Palaci Oriol, the President of Patentes Talgo, the Spanish company expressed its preparedness to supply new trains alongside the existing six Talgo-250 high-speed trains.
Despite their current heavy workload in producing 64 trains for Denmark and Germany, Patentes Talgo will prioritise the production of four sets of Afrosiab electric trains for Uzbekistan Temir Yullari.
To finance the order, the Spanish Government's Fund for the Internationalisation of Spanish Companies will secure long-term soft loans.
During a pre-election gathering with voters in Karakalpakstan on June 12, UzLiDep presidential candidate Shavkat Mirziyoyev pledged the introduction of two high-speed trains on the Tashkent-Khiva and Tashkent-Nukus routes. The electrification of these railways will require a total investment exceeding $800mn. Consequently, Karakalpakstan will become part of the traditional tourist route connecting Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva.
