The employees of the Lower Amudarya Biosphere Reserve in Karakalpakstan on June 11 reported an incident of gunshots within the protected area. In response, the Reserve's employees acted swiftly to apprehend the perpetrator, who was later found to have been engaged in poaching.
When the inspectors arrived at the location, they came across a white Mathis car. They then proceeded to track its path, leading them to the Gurlan district. In the vehicle were bags with the dismembered corpse of the Bukhara deer and two hunting rifles, the Ministry of Ecology reports.
Experts have determined that the poacher caused a total of UZS 99mn damage to nature. The case has been handed over to the prosecutor's office, and investigative measures are being taken.
The Bukhara deer inhabits the rough forests and tall grasslands along the waterways of Central Asia. It is a rare and significant animal, recognized in both the International Red Book and the Red Book of Uzbekistan.
