The number of Uzbek students pursuing higher education in foreign countries, particularly in Italy, has witnessed a significant increase in recent years. This surge reflects the growing collaboration in the field of education, among other sectors, between Italy and Uzbekistan.
Abdulfattah Shokirov, a former justice system employee in Uzbekistan, is currently pursuing a Master's degree at Sapienza University in Rome. Shokirov is a proud recipient of a scholarship from the "El-Yurt Umid" foundation. In an exclusive interview with a "Daryo" reporter, Abdulfattah Shokirov shared his experiences of studying abroad, insights into the Italian education system, and his future aspirations.
"I have been interested in various fields of education since my youth, such as mathematics, chess, and specific sciences. My fascination with jurisprudence began when I was 12 years old. Subsequently, from 2010 to 2013, I enrolled in the Tashkent Legal Vocational College, where I developed an affinity for working with legal documents.
In 2013, I gained admission to Tashkent State Law University, studying in both Uzbek and Russian groups. This allowed me to become adept at working with documents and drafting legal papers in both languages. I began working in the justice system in December 2017.
During my time at the university and throughout my professional journey, I nurtured a dream of pursuing a Master's degree abroad. Consequently, I dedicated myself to improving my proficiency in the English language. Through diligent preparation and successfully passing the required examinations, I secured admission to study law at Sapienza University in Rome, Italy.
I became a beneficiary of the "Hope of El-Yurt" foundation scholarship program. After undergoing a rigorous selection process, I was awarded the prestigious scholarship. This enabled me to embark on my educational journey without the burden of financial concerns, allowing me to solely focus on acquiring knowledge. By studying abroad, I hold the responsibility of bringing fresh perspectives and innovative ideas back to Uzbekistan through my intellectual growth.
Personal development and the attainment of lofty goals often necessitate stepping out of one's comfort zone. Therefore, I regarded pursuing a Master's degree as an exciting new objective for myself. Initially, my parents expressed concerns about the challenges I might face abroad. However, with my work experience and the support provided by the scholarship, any objections were swiftly resolved.
Even as I embarked on my studies, my intention was always to return to Uzbekistan, armed with the knowledge I acquired here, and contribute to the development of my home country."
Abdulfattah Shokirov's journey exemplifies the aspirations of many Uzbek students who seek to broaden their horizons and make a meaningful impact on their nation's progress. Through their experiences abroad, these scholars strive to foster positive change and create a brighter future for Uzbekistan.
