Uzbekistan has received a new batch of 13,000 Daclatasvir medications from Sharm el-Sheikh to Tashkent, June 11. The drugs, donated by Egypt, are intended for the Research Institute of Virology under the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan, where patients with hepatitis C undergo treatment. This delivery is part of the bilateral agreement between the two countries' health ministries, which aims to provide 800,000 packages of Daclatasvir and Sofosbuvir worth $4.2mn free of charge to Uzbekistan between 2023 and 2024.
Egypt has made significant strides in combating the hepatitis C virus, with the population of the country reportedly fully recovering from the disease. At the recent 76th session of the World Health Organization in Geneva, experts and specialists from the international organization acknowledged Egypt's achievements in this area. A report on Egypt's successful efforts to eradicate the hepatitis C virus is expected to be published in June, making Egypt the first country in the world to achieve this milestone.
The recent shipment marks the seventh consecutive delivery of hepatitis C drugs to Uzbekistan this year, highlighting the ongoing support and collaboration between the two nations in the fight against this disease.
Earlier batches of these medications were successfully delivered on April 29, May 6, May 14, May 20, and May 28, June 5.
