In Tashkent, a group of clandestine individuals belonging to a terrorist organization has been apprehended, the Municipal Department of Internal Affairs' (MDIA) press service reports.
Collaborating with law enforcement agencies, authorities successfully arrested eight covert members of the "Tawhid and Jihad Secretariat" terrorist organization on May 20. Their intended plan involved organizing collective gatherings in Tashkent and seeking future affiliation with terrorist groups operating in Syria.
The arrested individuals had established communication channels with the leaders of the terrorist organization using the internet and various social messaging platforms. Acting upon the instructions received, they were actively involved in disseminating the organization's ideology among the public and recruiting new members.
In response to this development, the Investigative Department of the Tashkent MDIA has initiated a criminal case under the relevant sections of the Criminal Code, resulting in the suspects' detention. The investigation is currently ongoing.
