President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov has held a meeting of the State Security Council, local TV channel Altyn Asyr reports.
The meeting discussed issues of ensuring security and peace in the state.
Berdimuhamedov drew attention to the importance of addressing the priorities of the Military Doctrine of Neutral Turkmenistan, which was purely defensive in nature.
Addressing National Security Minister Nazar Atagarayev, he said ensuring the security of Turkmenistan citizens and society, strengthening the sovereignty, the constitutional order, and territorial integrity were the priorities of the law enforcement agencies.
Turkmenistan steadily maintains relations of friendship and good neighborliness with all countries and peoples of the world, Berdimuhamedov said.
Turkmenistan shares land borders with Afghanistan (800km), Iran (1,148km), Kazakhstan (458km), and Uzbekistan (1,650km). The country borders Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, and Russia in the Caspian Sea. The total length of Turkmenistan's maritime border is about 600 km.
Since 1995, Turkmenistan has had a status of positive neutrality and is not a member of any military-political bloc.
At this stage, Ashgabat is preparing for military tactical exercises, which are regular. Turkmenistan's army is considered the third strongest of the five Central Asian states, after those of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. That is according to a report from the think tank Global Firepower 2023.
