Construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway corridor will open additional opportunities for Turkmenistan as a transit hub between Europe and Asia.
Mirvokhid Azimov, deputy secretary general of the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS), made the statement in a video address to participants at an international transport forum in Ashgabat.
The project, which will connect the railways of China and Uzbekistan, will open a new route to Europe via Turkmenistan, Iran and Turkey.
Construction is scheduled to begin this year and will be carried out by China National Machinery Imp. & Exp. Corporation.
