Shavkat Mirziyoyev's first meeting in Germany was with the country's Federal Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, his press service informs.
The president extended his gratitude for the friendly greeting he got at the end of their talk. The German government stated its willingness to help Uzbekistan's attempts to join the World Trade Organization and ink the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement with the EU as soon as possible. Both parties stressed the necessity of ongoing political engagement and congratulated each other on the adoption of the Intergovernmental Declaration on Deepening Multilateral Cooperation.
Olaf Scholz praised Uzbekistan's new regional policy, which seeks to foster mutual trust and promote Central Asian cooperation.
They decided to establish a discussion forum linking Germany and Central Asia, as well as to examine regional security issues, especially the current situation in Afghanistan.
The need for continuing humanitarian programs, such as using the transportation facility in Termez and the educational center for Afghan youth, was emphasized. Both sides also paid close attention to transportation and logistics advancement, and they unanimously supported the collaborative development of the Trans-Caspian Corridor, a route connecting Central Asia and Europe.
The group also reviewed the rich program of cultural-humanitarian collaboration, which includes the inauguration of an exceptional exhibition devoted to Uzbekistan's cultural legacy in Berlin. The growing interest in studying German in Uzbekistan was also noted, and the German government decided to provide technical assistance to develop German language instruction in Uzbekistan's provinces.
In total, sixteen bilateral and interagency documents on the economy, trade, finance, education, science, and innovation were signed. Shavkat Mirziyoyev asked German Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz to visit Uzbekistan at the end of the conference.
